A pick of the best homes with wine cellars

Whether your tipple of choice is a cold crisp white or a deep full-bodied red – having the space to lay down some fine wines for the future, as well as housing a collection that’s ready to enjoy now, is a must for house-hunting oenophiles.

These days, of course, wine storage doesn't have to mean a cobwebbed space below stairs: it's just as likely to be a walk-in wine room or built into a feature wall.

Listed below is a selection of homes with dedicated wine cellars worth raising a glass to, perfect for keeping a few or more of your favourites close at hand.

THE BRICK HOUSE, THE GREEN, FINCHINGFIELD, BRAINTREE, ESSEX

A landmark village home with a separate cottage, range of outbuildings and beautifully designed gardens. The property retains many fine period features, complemented by an extensive programme of renovation. The lower ground floor provides excellent ancillary space with a large cellar and gym.

PIPERS, THE LEE, GREAT MISSENDEN, BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

An impressive country residence with links to the founder of London’s world-famous Liberty’s department store, alongside a Grade II listed figurehead taken from the Royal Navy’s last wooden warship. A superb wine cellar is accessed from the ground floor entrance hall.

POLSTEAD HALL, POLSTEAD, SUFFOLK

Located in the heart of ‘Constable Country’, Polstead Hall is a fine example of a period country house with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside and Dedham Vale National Landscape. A boot room to the rear of the property provides access to a traditional cellar and outside courtyard.

CRANFORD, VICTORIA ROAD, GOUROCK, INVERCLYDE

An incredible Arts & Crafts villa architecturally redesigned for modern living. A well-crafted wine cellar with timber racking and temperature-controlled refrigeration forms the entrance to a lower level leisure suite.

RADCLIVE GRANGE, RADCLIVE, BUCKINGHAM

Believed to date back to the early 16th century and enhanced with notable Victorian additions, Radclive Grange perfectly combines a wealth of authentic features with all the comforts of modern living. For the wine connoisseur there is a beautiful, fully-fitted, handcrafted Heaven and Stubbs cellar.

LEVERSDOWN HOUSE, ADSBOROUGH, TAUNTON, SOMERSET

A magnificent family home dating from the 1800s set in immaculate gardens and grounds with far-reaching views. Leversdown House has been significantly modernised and restored in recent years – including an impressive cellar on the lower ground floor.

CHAZEY END, THE WARREN, CAVERSHAM, READING

A contemporary riverside residence finished to the highest of standards, Chazey End is an exceptional house for entertaining. A standout feature is the striking spiral wine cellar, located in a state-of-the-art kitchen with capacity for approximately 1,600 bottles.
