What's new in the Caribbean?

As winter settles in, with shorter days, longer nights, and a chill in the air, many of us turn our thoughts to warmer horizons. While we embrace the festive season, the Caribbean is just entering its prime: a sun-soaked stretch from December to April known as the dry season.

During this time, it enjoys balmy temperatures, low humidity and minimal rainfall, creating the perfect setting for festivals, outdoor adventures and cultural celebrations.

Home to 13 independent nations and several overseas territories, the Caribbean offers more than just postcard-perfect beaches. It’s a region rich in tradition and warmth, both in climate and spirit. But beyond the familiar allure, it is always good to explore: what’s new in the Caribbean?

Barbados: A bold new chapter

Barbados has the spotlight as it embraces a bold new era of development, reaping the fruits of a revolutionary infrastructure project. The Pierhead, located in the heart of historic Bridgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is set to be a visionary district featuring homes, shops, cafés, green spaces, and vibrant gathering spots. Envisioned to blend ‘the energy of the city and the ease of the beach,’ this development aims to be the catalyst for Bridgetown’s revitalisation.

The Pierhead sits on a site steeped in heritage, once the bustling hub of sugar, shipping and trade. It’s a place shaped by industry and culture, struggle and resilience. This isn’t about rewriting history, it’s about celebrating evolution. What was once the working port of Bridgetown is being reimagined as a dynamic space for everyone.

Launched in July 2025, the development will unfold in three phases across five acres of waterfront land along Carlisle Bay. When complete, it will feature 178 private residences along with 35 curated food, retail, and cultural spaces, creating a community that blends modern living with authentic Barbadian character.

Getting there is easier than ever

Reaching the Caribbean has never been more convenient. Virgin Atlantic has introduced new non-stop services to Turks and Caicos and Antigua this November, with a direct route to Saint Lucia launching in early December. The airline is also increasing the frequency of its twin-stop flights to Grenada via Barbados, offering more flexibility for travellers.

Sustainability remains a regional priority

As a region of islands, climate change, and the associated risks of sea level rise, is a pressing concern. Caribbean nations are tackling this proactively, working with the United Nations and international organisations to raise awareness and implement climate mitigation strategies. These include restoring natural flood barriers, such as coral reefs.

As for real estate, sustainability is front and centre: nearly all new developments on the islands must conduct environmental impact assessments before planning approval is granted.

A place for the executive nomad

The region's real estate opportunities span luxury beachfront properties and charming pieds-à-terre  in gated and managed estates. In recent years, Savills has seen property markets in the Caribbean experience a significant resurgence following the challenges of the pandemic. Demand has increased for second homes, vacation rentals and remote working hubs. Barbados takes 8th place in the Savills Executive Nomad Index, the highest ranking island in the Caribbean, with Grenada, Saint Lucia, Cayman Islands, Antigua and The Bahamas also sitting in the top 30.

At Savills we have a stunning selection of Caribbean homes, ready and waiting for a new owner. We’ve curated a collection of properties that capture the essence of Caribbean living – take a closer look below.
