Savills cements place as largest employer of female town planners

The 2026 Women in Consultancy: A Planning Insight Report, the latest annual survey published by Planning Magazine, has named Savills as the top consultancy for overall numbers of female town planners.

Moving up from third place in the ranking of large employers with the highest number of female chartered town planners (CTPs), the news follows Savills maintaining the top planning consultancy spot - for the 10th time in 11 years - in the 2025 Planning Consultancy Market Report.

In this latest report, Savills comes top of the table for overall numbers of female town planners, with 80 female CTPs. This is an increase of 11 from last year’s figure of 69 and moves Savills up from third place in the ranking of large employers with the highest number of female CTPs.

Subsequently, this increase also makes Savills the planning consultancy with the largest growth in the number of female planners in the last 12 months.

Diana Thomson, director in the London Planning team, was interviewed by Planning Magazine and spoke about the support packages in place at Savills, such as a working mothers’ lunch and other female support groups and networking events which all contribute to an inclusive culture.

“The details of this latest report makes great reading for Savills, but also for the industry as a whole. I joined Savills 14 years ago as a senior planner and I’ve always felt it’s a good place to work. There are a number of measures the company has in place that have supported this growth, including flexible working options and various family benefits – especially in recognition of those with childcare responsibilities."

David Jackson, Head of Planning and Savills Earth at Savills, says: "It is immensely pleasing to be able to say we are the largest employer of female planners in the UK - a statement that I hope brings an enormous amount of pride to not only those within our planning division, but the business as a whole.

"As a division, we actively engage with schools and colleges up and down the country to raise awareness of the potential careers within planning, and being able to highlight this latest achievement is a powerful message to share with young women weighing up career opportunities within the industry.”
