Remaining sites of former car manufacturer sold in Birmingham

Savills has completed the £4 million sale of the last remaining development sites at the former MG Rover factory, paving the way for a residential-led mixed-use scheme in Birmingham that could deliver up to 360 new homes.

Located in Longbridge, around 8 miles south of Birmingham city centre, 1 & 2 Park Square were sold following more than two decades of regeneration underway since the factory closed in 2005.

The sites extend to 2.44 acres and 1.73 acres and are located close to Longbridge town centre, which continues to be transformed through a major mixed-use regeneration programme.

Both sites benefit from outline planning permissions for up to 360 apartments and are the final development plots in the town centre.

The wider area includes Longbridge Technology Park, a 260 home retirement village, Austin Park and improved riverside habitat, alongside retail and leisure uses such as Sainsbury’s, Premier Inn, PureGym, Marks & Spencer and Herbert’s Yard.

Michael Maguire, Director in the Midlands Development Land team at Savills, said: “Longbridge is an important part of Birmingham’s manufacturing history and we are pleased to have secured a buyer for the final town centre plots.

“We look forward to seeing the plans progress as part of the wider regeneration.”
