Tough though the races will be, the next six days are as much about community as they are about sport. Plans are made months in advance for the perfect opportunity to relax along the water’s edge, catch up with old friends and meet some new faces.

Preparation begins as early as mid-March when the first boat tents start to go up along the riverside, while crews in their brightly coloured blazers can be seen around town in the days and weeks leading up to the event.

Of course, rowing isn’t the only reason to love Henley. Buyers and tenants are drawn to the Oxfordshire town for its high quality housing, connectivity to London, excellent schooling, wide range of amenities and proximity to the gloriously unspoilt countryside of the Thames Valley and Chiltern Hills National Landscape.

Riverside living

Properties on the river are varied – everything from apartments and cottages to large country houses and Grade II listed homes. Buyers meanwhile are divided between those who want town-centre living with river views and those who want to make the most of the Thames with their own private moorings and a large river frontage.

Unsurprisingly, homes along the water are in high demand and rarely come up for sale – often commanding a premium. Savills own waterside research shows this can be as much as double the price of comparable properties further inland.
