Born and raised in Aix, Cézanne found endless inspiration in its golden light, limestone hills, and the iconic Mont Sainte-Victoire, which appeared in over 80 of his works.
From his home, the Bastide du Jas de Bouffan (re-opening this summer after renovation work), to his studio just outside the city centre, the region, known as Le Pays Aixois, is dotted with historical landmarks of the post-impressionist’s life.
Its cultural heritage is one of the many reasons Aix is so appealing to those looking for a home in France, with museums, galleries and cinemas, stunning architecture and excellent restaurants. This city may be small but it has no shortage of culture whilst being within easy reach of Marseille airport and all that Provence has to offer.
For those dreaming of owning a piece of this storied region, why not explore some of the finest homes all offering the kind of timeless beauty that captured Cézanne’s heart.
