Hedyn will be bringing their Newport and Pontypool offices together into a single, modern headquarters (HQ) into the property. The acquisition is to accommodate Hedyns continued development following the 2025 merger of Melin and Newport City Homes. Hedyn now boasts an organisation of 750 staff with more than 15,000 properties across South East Wales.
The Hub is located on Mill Street, immediately opposite Newport Railway Station and was formerly a Royal Mail sorting office. It was purchased by GBE Mill Street Ltd in 2018 who carried out initial refurbishment works on the 36,000 sq ft building to convert it into a high-quality office. Hedyn will complete the refurbishment works to allow occupation by summer 2028.
Gary Carver, Director in Savills Cardiff Office Agency, comments: “The Hub is ideally suited for Hedyn’s occupation and provides them with a building that offers large open plan floorplates for modern working practices. Its location benefits from being in close proximity to Newport city centre, and the popular Friars Walk development and is ideally situated to reach all the communities in which Hedyn provide homes”
Paula Kennedy, Chief Executive of Hedyn, commenting on the purchase of the Hub said “At Hedyn, we know how important home is in creating a sense of belonging and safety. We want the same thing for our colleagues which is why I’m so pleased to announce Hedyn’s new home.
“As a larger organisation now, it’s important for us to balance our commitment to being part of the communities we serve, with ensuring our offices are fit for purpose for our workforce. The move to the former Royal Mail building will help more of our colleagues work side by side meaning a more seamless service for our residents.
“We are committed to investing in the local community and are excited to be part of the local regeneration that will come from the increased footfall and the knock-on boost for shops and cafes.”
Andrew Gibson, Head of the Avison Young Cardiff office and acted for Hedyn, comments: “We are pleased to have acted as acquiring agents for Hedyn on the purchase of the Hub building in Newport. The acquisition represents a strong strategic opportunity, supporting Hedyn’s ambition to deliver high quality homes and contribute to the continued regeneration of the city and wider region. The Hub’s location and potential made it an attractive proposition, and we are delighted to have supported Hedyn through a successful transaction.”
