This week brought both Falmouth Sailing Week and Shrimper Camel Week in Rock, with world-class racing, spectacular displays and lively waterside entertainment welcoming sailors and spectators from near and far into our local communities. Later this month, the River Dart in Devon takes its turn in the spotlight, with the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta – one of the UK’s oldest regattas – returning for its annual celebration.

Boasting over 900 miles of coastline, the South West peninsula is arguably the most impressive in the UK, offering dramatic expanses of open water, alongside pretty and unspoilt coves, and wonderful estuaries. So, whether you are a sailor or enjoy the sailing scene, there is plenty to explore and get involved in across the Devon and Cornwall coast.

Falmouth

With the third-largest natural deep water harbour in the world, Falmouth, on the south coast of Cornwall, is probably the most famous sailing destination in the country, and perennially popular. Its sheltered harbour provides easy access to both the sea and the calm waters of the river Fal. While Falmouth Sailing Week is the biggest and best-known, the lively town plays host to many nautical events throughout the year.

Pendennis House

Occupying a prime position on the prestigious Pendennis Headland, this spectacular contemporary residence offers commanding views over the entrance to Falmouth harbour, St Mawes and out to sea, as well as private access to a secluded beach below.

Along the Helford River, to the south of Falmouth, you will find a number of smaller communities, popular with sailors looking for a quiet and sheltered spot to moor up. Helford Passage, Port Navas, Helford and Gillan are incredibly picturesque.
